IRATA (Industrial Rope Access Trade Association)
International training for working at height in a two-rope system. The IRATA organisation was established to ensure safe work height; hence the procedures and training plan were developed.
The course is aimed at anyone who wants to work in the rope access technician industry – on oil rigs, wind farms, power plants, industrial plants or refineries. The IRATA credential is one of the most prestigious and most frequently required credentials worldwide.
The validity of the certificate is 3 years.
There are 3 levels of authorisation:
- Level 1 – Rope Access Technician
A technician may perform rope access activities on a limited basis and always under the supervision of a Level 3 qualification holder. - Level 2 – Rope Access Technician – Specialist
The Technician has knowledge and skills in the full range of rope access. In addition, he prepares positions and, if necessary, participates in rescue operations conducted under the supervision of a Level 3 specialist.
Requirements:
– a minimum of 12 months of experience in high-altitude work,
– documented a minimum of 1,000 hours of work as a technician with Level 1 qualifications. - Level 3 – Rope Access Technician – Supervisor
The specialist has the competencies and knowledge acquired at Levels 1, 2 and 3. He is responsible for the employees under him and the work performed at height. The supervising rope access technician also holds a current first aid certificate.
Requirements:
– a minimum of 12 months experience working at height,
– documented a minimum of 1,000 hours of work as a technician with level 2 qualifications.
Duration: 5-6 days (4-5 training days + 1 exam day)
Certificates
Upon successful completion of the examination, you will receive a certificate, a work logbook, in which the technician’s working hours are recorded, and a plastic card confirming your certification.
Refresher training
After 3 years, but before your certification expires, you will need to retake the course and the examination in order to continue working as a rope access technician.
Additional training
If a technician has not worked at height for a period of 180 days, and therefore does not have an entry in the work logbook, he or she is required to undertake refresher training. The refresher course lasts for a minimum of 1 day and, if necessary, its duration is determined on an individual basis. The training does not end with an examination, but an entry in the Logbook must be obtained.
As of 01.01.2020, IRATA has withdrawn the possibility to take Direct Entry training directly.
