This course is designed for those responsible for carrying out documented inspections of PPE to protect against falls from height. It authorises the inspection of PPE and covers fall protection equipment from all companies, provided that the company has not stipulated that the inspection may only be carried out by a person following a manufacturer's training course.
Once the exam is passed, a certificate of competence is issued - valid for 3 years.
We hold the title of Petzl Technical Partner, so we provide training in the inspection, inspection and maintenance of PETZL branded PPE.

According to
EN 365, a competent person for periodic testing is:
- a person educated in the current periodic test requirements, recommendations and instructions issued by the manufacturer applicable to the component, subsystem, system.
NOTE 1: It is recommended that such a person should be capable of identifying and assessing the significance of defects, initiating corrective action, and possessing the skills and capabilities necessary to do so.
NOTE 2: It may be necessary for a competent person to be trained by the manufacturer or its authorised representative on particular PPE and other equipment, e.g. appropriate complexity or modernity, or where critical safety knowledge is necessary to disassemble, reassemble or evaluate PPE and other equipment. Repeated training may be necessary due to modifications and use of newer versions of equipment.
NOTE 3: A person may be competent to carry out periodic testing of one specific PPE or other equipment or may be competent to test several models.
A competent person:
- should be characterised by an understanding of the operation of the equipment, possible defects, wear and tear, etc;
- should have knowledge of the use of the equipment, if not the same, then at least similar in principle operation;
- theory and practice (experience) to detect defects and damage and assess how serious they are and whether they affect the safety of the user;
- should be characterised by the ability to take appropriate action;
- must be a person who will make a decisive judgment as to whether the equipment in question may be put into further operation;
- must be authorised by the employer to carry out the inspection, as it is the employer's responsibility to appoint a person who is competent to inspect "high altitude" equipment.
